Church Lane Crossing: In November Norfolk Highways installed traffic calming measures and dropped kerbs to assist residents crossing the road near to local businesses and various remedial works have since taken place to correct problems with the installation. Data from the Eaton Speed Awareness Monitor (SAM) highlighted that the new speed humps significantly slowed vehicles heading from the traffic lights. However, many drivers were taking advantage of the incorrect spacing of the humps to drive between them with several near-misses witnessed. At a meeting with EVRA and Councillor Watkins, Norfolk Highways agreed the spacing was incorrect and will be adjusted on Friday 14th March starting at 7pm. Traffic control will be in place during the works.
We also discussed our desire for a zebra crossing that Highways said would cost around £200K – which seems an enormous sum for the required work! Discussions with Highways on how this might be provided and sources of funding continue.
