Eaton History Talk

Thank you to everyone who turned out on a wet and wintery evening to attend our history talk on Monday 10th February at the Eaton Vale Activity Centre. Around a hundred people came to hear about the history of Eaton over the past 1000 years delivered by Vivien Humber, a local historian. We heard how Eaton grew from farmland and marsh into an area for market gardens and nurseries and then into a suburb of Norwich as the City expanded beyond its walls. We heard about the significant people of Norwich who made Eaton their home and left a lasting legacy of grand homes. Further building in the 1950/60s turned the farmland and nurseries into the housing where many of us live today. We then had a short presentation on the history of the Eaton Village sign.

It was a busy evening for the EVRA Events team who organised the event and provided refreshments for the attendees. They would welcome more help for such events so please get in touch with them if you would like to volunteer: events.evra@gmail.com

We thank Vivien Humber for her very informative talk. Vivien acknowledged that there was a much more should could have said about the history of Eaton which extends well beyond our corner here in Eaton Village.

We also thank Eaton Vale Activity Centre for allowing us to use their excellent facilities and to Sam, in particular, for looking after us on the night.

For some years we have had posts on the EVRA Website with photos and information on Old Eaton and these have now been brought together under a new heading of Eaton History.
