ST STEPHENS STREET CONSULTATION

Please note that a public consultation is currently taking place about plans to revamp St Stephens Street and its surrounding area.  As you may know, council leaders have recently received confirmation that Norwich is to receive £32 million for public transport improvements as part of the Transforming Cities initiative.  This £4.8 million scheme has recently been recommended for approval by the Transforming Cities Committee to form part of a programme of improvements to be completed across the city over the next three years or so.

In St Stephens Street, new sawtooth bus bays would be created, which it is claimed will make it easier for buses to pull away after picking up or dropping off passengers.  A raised table would be created at the junction with Surrey Street to slow vehicle speeds but allow the removal of traffic signals there.  Overall, the project is designed to cut bus journey times into the city, improve walking and cycling, and generally create a better shopper friendly environment.

The public consultation finishes on Monday 19th October and further details of the scheme can be found on www.norfolk.gov.uk/StStephens
