It is that time of year again when we remind you about our Scarecrow Festival, Family Fun Day and Garage Sales and seek your involvement in our community event. We would love you to have a scarecrow on display and/or garage sale during our Village Festival week of 15th to 23rd July. The EVRA Events Planning Team are organising these events and have introduced some changes to scarecrow categories as set out below which should make it simpler to participate.
The Eaton Village Scarecrow Festival and Competition takes place from Saturday 15th July until Sunday 23rd July and the theme for 2023 is “A character from a Disney film”. This is to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the Disney Studios .
As always, we are looking for a good turn-out of scarecrows to help celebrate the Disney Centenary and hoping that you can once again support our festival by making and displaying a scarecrow. Scarecrows don’t have to be complicated or extravagant, although we realise that many of you have brilliant ideas which you are able to put into practice. Simple designs using found materials can be equally appealing to visitors and residents and for 2023 we have introduced a new category of basic scarecrows – similar to those you might see in a farmer’s field. We have also invited Eaton Businesses to have their own mini-scarecrow festival to run alongside.
You can see photos of scarecrows from previous years on the EVRA website which may provide inspiration and examples of what can be easily made: Eaton Scarecrow Festival Gallery – Eaton Village Residents’ Association
The EVRA Events Planning Team set out in the June newsletter more information about the scarecrow festival which you can read on the EVRA website at: june-23-NL-.pdf (eatonvillage.co.uk)
Waitrose are sponsoring 1st , 2nd and 3rd prizes for the main category of scarecrows
Smith and Pinching are sponsoring 1st 2nd and 3rd prizes for Basic (minimal) scarecrows.
Residents can enter both main and basic competitions if they wish.
A third category will be the best business scarecrow but no prizes for that category but they will get a certificate.
The Scarecrow Trail Map will include a voting form so that you can vote for your favourites in each of the three categories.
All prizes and certificates will be issued based on the public votes.
We are very grateful for the support of Waitrose and Smith & Pinching for EVRA Events and for sponsoring prizes.
Please Register your entry for the scarecrow competition by 1st July so that we can add you to our Trail map. You can email your details our Events team at events.evra@gmail.com to include your address, phone contact and the name of your scarecrow. Alternatively you can drop your details into the EVRA postbox by the checkouts in Waitrose or post a note in the letter box at the following addresses: 11 Brentwood, 11 Buckland Rise, 60 Greenways, 9 Abinger Way.
Garage Sales
EVRA are also holding garage sales over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd July – the second weekend of the Scarecrow Trail. You could have a stall at the front of your house to sell any unwanted items and/or you could tour the Trail to see if you can find that long-awaited item..
For Garage Sales we will need your Name, Address and confirmation whether you will have a sale on both Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd July or on either of those days. We request a £5 donation to EVRA funds for those having a garage sale which can be delivered to any of the following addresses: 11 Brentwood, 11 Buckland Rise, 60 Greenways, 9 Abinger Way – Cheques should be made out to Eaton Village Residents Association.
Having a scarecrow as well as a garage sale will help to increase the number of visitors to your sale.
The Trail Map will include the location of all scarecrows and garage sales.
We look forward to hearing from you and receiving your support for our scarecrow festival and for our garage sales.
