Changes to the structure of our local Councils is under review with different options being proposed by our County and District Councils ( a single Unitary Council for Norfolk or three smaller Unitary Councils). The outcome will have a big effect on our community and how the services are provided. We currently get a responsive service from the Community teams in the City Council but find that dealing with the County Council can be more difficult where Eaton is a small part of the larger County. How will local and Community services be provided under the new arrangements to ensure that communities such as Eaton are listened to and supported?
You can find out more in the message below from the City Council and also take part in the survey to have your say by 1st August 2025 at: https://futurenorfolk.com/have-your-say .
There is also a Roadshow in Waitrose car park on Wednesday 16th July from 3pm to 6pm.
News from Norwich City Council: Changes to Local Government
The government have announced that there are some major changes to how councils in Norfolk will be structured. Currently there are 8 councils in Norfolk and there is a two-tier system with some services (such as children’s services and highways) being run by Norfolk County Council and other services (such as parks and housing) being run by districts such as Norwich City Council. This is going to change so all services in an area are run by a single council.
Discussions are currently ongoing as to how this will look. Norwich, together with 5 other district councils have put in a proposal for 3 councils to cover the whole of the county which would include a council covering Greater Norwich We need to submit a full proposal to the government in September and as part of that we need to understand what is important to people in how local services are run and how local decisions are made. There is an online survey which is just being launched at Future Norfolk – https://futurenorfolk.com/
We’re also offering roadshows to give people the opportunity to come and have a conversation, find out more about what it means for them and for us to find out more about what’s important to them.
We’re going to be holding a roadshow in Eaton on Wednesday 16th July from 3pm to 6pm in the car park at Waitrose. Please do drop by and say hello if you’re passing!
